About Us ...

Our names are Deborah and Rick Hudson. We have been married 28 years, have two grown sons and enjoy this newfound hobby together.

Dream Himi cattery originated from a desire to breed & show after falling in love with my first Himalayan cat Angel, a seal point female who had georgous blue eyes. I spent summers as a child in awe of the miracle of birth and played with my grandmother's cats and kittens. My grandparents', Lillian and Ted Perkins, bless their hearts now deceased, bred and showed Siamese, Tonkinese, and Burmese in the 1960's. I think of them often and show my cats with pride and follow their legacy. We feel blessed to have made some good friends in the cat fancy and honored to have the guidance of some very well known breeders who have many years of experience.

As a child I loved to daydream in class and I excelled in art. I named my cats artists names or use an artistic theme. I called my cattery DREAMHIMI because we COULD ONLY DREAM of owning a home we could never afford to buy one. Starting the cattery and timing in the housing market allowed us to purchase our first home! The stars were aligned for us because we don't believe we could have found a landlord who'd allow us to breed cats!

Dream Himi cattery has shown and registered with CFA and TICA since 2002. Cream point, Flame point, Seal point, Seal Lynx point, Blue Cream point, Blue point (choc carrier), Tortie point (choc carrier), Black cpc (choc carrier), and Blue tabby cpc (choc carrier). Careyata, Prairiecat, Vital Andion, Prancenpaws, Playwickey, Babes In Fur, Sandleys, Yo-mans, Foxy, Missionhill, and Catley Crue.

Although our cats live in our home with us, we recently built a large sunroom for them. It overlooks the harbor of a funky, artistic, naturally serene, and beautiful environment of a little suburb called Port Moody located in the southwestern coast of British Columbia, Canada. Port Moody won two awards in 2004 at the International Awards for Livable Communities; first place for "Planning for the Future", and third place for "Livable Community". We are members of "The Atlantic Himalayan Club" that produces a yearly glossy world directory of Himalayan breeder members and publishes a quarterly magazine of fine quality with articles about showing and anything to do with breeding and loving the Himalayan cat.

We are very grateful for all the support and care our cats get from Dr. Margaret Henderson, six other veterinarians and assistants at Newton Animal Hospital. They specialize in working with dog and cat breeders and are located at 7010 King George Highway in Surrey, 604-596-7417. Being a home loving, sensitive, creative person, I am particular about cleanliness, seek out the latest in veterinarian care, keep a closed cattery, and am compassionate to continue to learn to improve the breed. We feed EVO canned and dry food made by Natura. We are introducing other high quality foods at this time - only the best for our well socialized, loved, and pampered Himis! I endeavor to breed healthy, gorgeous, affectionate, companion pets, show, and breeding cats.

We used to ultrasound scan & now DNA test for PKD (PolycysticKidney Disease) a genetic inherited disease ending lives between 3 and 10 years average 7. We do cardiac ultra sound tests for HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) a genetic heart condition from mild to severe which can end lives from age 6 to 9 years. We test all new cats from outside our cattery for FeLV (Feline Leukemia)& FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus);both diseases are contagious, often go together are caught from cat-to-cat contact and found in urban cats that roam outdoors. All pets are spayed or nuetered by my veterinarian before placement and the costs are included in the pet price.
